Hanko Regatta is the biggest sail racing event in Finland and always draws a big crowd ready to sail fast and party hard. The Regatta has been organized already for half a century and always seems to bring out the best in both the Finnish weather as well as in the participants. Out on the race course adrenalin levels run high in serious off-shore competitions. Book now and join the race to experience a real sailing fiesta.

The event itself is from Friday (6th) to Sunday the 8th of July. For a small additional sailing fee you can join already in Helsinki and do the archipelago for a few days before the race (4th to 5th) or/and for the return trip back to Helsinki (9th to 10th of July). Both trips stay over night at Barösund and dinner will be served at the excellent Restaurant Scola, known for it’s delicious menu. On the 10th we arrive in Helsinki before 18.00.

In the Regatta (July 6-8) s/y Eira races in the LYS handicap class. You don’t need previous racing experience to join, the crew will be happy to help you and teach you! The skipper and crew speak fluent English as typically do all the other participants so you are guaranteed a good time even if you do not speak Finnish!

Instructions for participants

Departure

You can join the race either in Helsinki or Hanko

Helsinki: Departure from Valkosaari island (see map below) Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at 10.00 AM. The leg from Helsinki costs 120€.

Hanko: Eira will arrive in Hanko on Thursday afternoon. You should board on Thursday, July  5, 2018 between 18:00 and 22:00 (6-10PM).

Return

From Hanko: Sunday, July 8 in the evening or Monday, July 9 before 09:00 (AM).

Helsinki: You can join the return leg to Helsinki. We will be back in Helsinki/Valkosaari in the evening on Tuesday, July 10. The return leg Hanko-Helsinki costs 120€.

Travel to and from Hanko.

Th easiest way to reach Hanko is by train of bus from Helsinki. You can also arrive by car but be advised that parking close to the harbor can be difficult during the race.

Equipment

  • Warm clothes and rain gear, the weather in Finland can be cool

Eira is a 51 foot performance cruiser built by the famous Nautor shipyard in Pietarsaari, Finland. Designed by German Frers and launched in 1981, she is an icon of her era.
